COURSE 3: BROWSER-BASED FILEPRO
This series of classes is intended for the filePro developer who is ready to take advantage of one of the latest and most promising filePro capabilities - browser-based filePro. This course provides you with the tools to:
With this technology, operators can access filePro applications either with their web browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc) or by the traditional, text-based method.
Step One (1/2 Day) You will learn how to put your internal Intranet for filePro on your internal network - hardware options and specifications; operating systems; Apache Server installation and configuration; and filePro and fPcgi installation and configuration.
Steps Two through Six are devoted to creating interactive, browser-based filePro applications. You will receive in-depth instruction and training, and will work on a networked laptop to put these skills to work on an assigned database. You will create sophisticated, interactive web applications to access your filePro database from the browser.
Step Seven is an optional day, working on your projects with Bill Doyle. He will teach many more tricks and techniques to expand and enhance your programming abilities.
Each student works with an IBM laptop on our new, wireless network with a SCO Unix Server. Each student has a dedicated filePro database with which to create the filePro elements as they are learning them. Student work can be printed as well as displayed on your own laptop with Internet Explorer, or on the main teaching screen, to discuss techniques and results obtained.

to filePro Version 5.0 or to the new Version 5.6, fileProODBC, fileProGI, filePro
fPcgi; or for a copy of the filePro Developer's Reference;
or for other available products and services from STN, Inc.
Course Description Training provides detailed documentation, discusses any changes that might be
needed to your hardware. Written and presentations are made about software specs,
procedures and configuration information for running the
intranet in your current network environment. The network server is reviewed in detail,
with specific instructions in configuring the Operating System. Apache Server will be
installed and configured in class. filePro configuration considerations will be discussed. fPcgi
will be installed and configured.
Students will have the fundamentals needed to reproduce this on their office networks.
Prerequisites: A working knowledge of multi-user filePro networks is useful.
Course Description Training provides an introduction to the basics of HTML, the language and
tags. An overview of HTML processing is taught, including steps in development;
terminology; planning the output; coding output; and HTML formats and tags.
Prerequisites: An understanding of the concepts of HTML is useful but not required.
Course Description This class teaches HTML editing particularly as they relate to filePro.
The filePro command-set for creating HTML documents directly from your processing tables
is powerful but requires training to learn this unique "language". The
resulting output is an HTML document that can be read directly with any
browser. You will create and maintain your web pages right from your
filePro database. You have the full functionality of filePro directly linked
to your web page output! We will explore the use of fonts,
colors, and tables to control web page layout and user experience.
Students will create HTML documents for web posting and see the
results with their Internet Explorer browser. Three lab projects will be completed
using skills taught in the class with increasing levels of difficulty and complexity.
You will use filePro to manipulate fonts, tables, color and other HTML features.
You will integrate images into your web pages, right from filePro.
Prerequisites: Steps 1 and 2, and a working knowledge of filePro programming.
Course Description Students will learn to build web pages (called "forms") that replace
Text-based screens and will develop proper techniques to create forms
and their input fields. In one lab project, students will construct
forms for data entry and searching.
Prerequisites: Steps 1, 2, and 3.
Course Description Menus will be constructed in HTML documents to provide Browser access to
data entry forms and reporting functions that were constructed in the
previous classes. Students will learn two techniques to build menus in HTML pages using
hyperlinks and buttons. During the lab project, students will complete menu pages that
will drive data entry and reporting. Prerequisites: Steps 1 through 4.
Course Description
This day is devoted to completing your entire system - menus, forms (screens),
and web-page reports. You will integrate the work done on the previous days into
your complete application. Students will design and code HTML report request pages. You will
create advanced input pages (forms) with retrieval capabilities, and develop
report pages with selection techniques. Your forms and output programs will be linked to the menus created. Using
techniques taught, you will enhance your earlier work to build complex forms
for data entry and reporting from your filePro database. These browser-ready web pages will access your regular student filePro database
You will see the results in your browser. You will use filePro to manipulate
fonts, tables, color and other graphical features.
Course Description This is an optional day. You will expand your work on your projects with the
instructor. Many more tricks and techniques will be taught to expand and enhance
your programming abilities. Prerequisites: Steps 1 through 6.
Course 3 Description
STEP 1: HOW TO BUILD YOUR INTRANET - H/W, OS, Apache Server,
filePro, fPcgi.
STEP 2: FUNDAMENTALS OF HTML PROGRAMMING
STEP 3: REPORTS - filePro HTML PROGRAMMING AND WEB PAGE OUTPUT
STEP 4: SCREENS - fPcgi PROGRAMMING AND FORMS
STEP 5: MENUS - Hyperlinks And Buttons PROGRAMMING
STEP 6: PUT IT ALL TOGETHER - APPLICATION LAB MAKES YOUR WORK INTERACTIVE
